Shinobi (忍) – You know what this is, right?

What is Mizuhiki…?

It’s a traditional Japanese craft made from paper. And it’s usually used to decorate gifts given at events of congratulations and condolences.
The ribbon has meanings depending on the color or number of cords at the event.
The ribbons don’t get untied, which symbolizes a continuing relationship.

Why is it called Mizuhiki…?

About 500 years ago, the way to dye Mizuhiki was ‘pulling‘ paper cords out of dyed ‘water‘, and then putting paper cords into glue ‘water‘ to keep the shape and ‘pulling‘ them out to dry.
Mizu‘ means water and ‘Hiki‘ means Pulling in Japanese.
Because in Japan water is believed to purify things,
Therefore, Mizuhiki are considered purified, and capable of protecting against negative energies.
